I am ecstatic to announce I found $20 in one of my old high school graduation cards today. This is probably the most awesome thing to come of moving out of my parents house. I have been sorting and tossing through 21 years of clutter and it's taken me darn near a month to get out of here. After my great discovery I whisked through stacks and stacks of old cards in search of "treasure" only to discover two things:

1. I wish people would date their cards.
2. Old greeting cards make me cry.

Think about pictures... We save them to preserve memories. But how much more powerful are words and letters... In my search I came acrossed numerous birthday cards from my grandmother. Sweet, sweet cards.
When you first get a birthday card you quickly read through it and what, shake it for money? The message gets lost in the excitement of opening the next present and what do you really care when you're young. Now that my grandmother has passed away I re-read the cards and letters.

And I just cried.

It's one thing to see a picture of her face but to hear her voice again through her letters and how proud she is of me... I cried.

I hope you guys save your birthday cards. Read em'. It might be the only way to speak to someone from your past.

Oh and date things.
